Work description
The candidates will be expected to assist with ongoing research projects in Behavioral and Experimental Economics and/or Auctions and Market Design. The work will be both empirical and theoretical. Empirical work includes coding and running lab/field experiments or surveys, collecting, organizing, visualizing, and analyzing data (both large-scale and small-scale datasets), and writing reports. Theoretical work includes organizing related literature, solving game-theoretic models, and microeconomic-theory problems.
The work is best suited to a student seeking to obtain pre-doctoral research experience in order to transition to a top PhD program in Economics, or a PhD in some other related discipline.
Qualifications
Candidates with a Master’s in Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, and Applied Mathematics are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in these disciplines will only be considered if they have an outstanding academic record and/or past research experience. Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and related disciplines are also welcome. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering disciplines are also welcome if they can demonstrate skills in game theory and econometrics.
Eligibility
Candidates must have a good knowledge of at-least one among STATA/R, Python, Matlab, Latex, and an ability to learn new languages on-the-go. Ideally, candidates will have prior experience handling data sets. Candidates with a good understanding of econometric techniques, game-theoretic concepts, and good English communication skills will be given preference. Relevant letters of recommendation are welcome, but not necessary.
Tenure
The initial appointment for either position is for six months, with a possibility of extension up to one year, based on performance appraisal.
Selection process
Shortlisted applicants from the applicant pool would be tested on the ability to understand a relevant research paper, and then on the ability to perform the analysis required in a curated problem set, along with the accompanying code (including estimation routines). These tests will be conducted using interviews over Zoom.
Compensation
The selected candidate will be offered a competitive monthly salary based on prior qualifications and experience.
Location
Office space shall be provided on the IIMA campus. Thus, locating near IIMA will be optimal. However, location flexibility will be maintained on the basis of COVID-19 related constraints.
